DESCRIPTION:Le long-métrage « The Woman King » retrace l’histoire des Agojié\, ces guerrières d’Afrique de l’Ouest qui ont marqué l’histoire en défendant avec une hargne sans pareille le royaume du Dahomey\, face aux troupes françaises dans les années 1890. Alors que les soldats de l’armée française tentent de pénétrer le territoire du roi Béhanzin\, dans le but de le renverser\, ils se heurtent à une défense à laquelle ils ne s’attendent pas : les redoutables Amazones de Dahomey. Des guerrières d’élites\, appelées les Agojié\, entraînées et conditionnées à l’art de la guerre. Les femmes-soldats de ce royaume étaient « plus ou moins ordinaires mais recrutées pour leur caractère ».
